New EU funds for Ljubljana

As part of the Pilot Cities program, the City of Ljubljana was selected to test and implement innovative approaches for the decarbonization of the city, within the scope of which we will focus on the use of excess heat in high-temperature systems (industry, transformers, data centres, sewerage, etc.).

The Pilot Cities program is part of the Mission for 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030, in which Ljubljana also participates. The program in the UP-SCALE (Urban Pioneers – Systemic Change Amid Liveable Environments) project involves, in addition to the City of Ljubljana, the City Municipality of Kranj (lead partner) and Velenje, the Jožef Stefan Institute and Envirodual d.o.o.. Together with 52 pilot cities, we will participate in the NetZeroCities Pilot Cities program for two years.

The aim of the UP-SCALE project is the implementation of three pilot projects in three Slovenian cities – Kranj, Ljubljana and Velenje. In Ljubljana, we will focus on the use of excess heat in high-temperature systems (industry, transformers, data centres, sewerage, etc.). It is one of the measures of the local energy concept and an additional layer in the energy climate atlas of Ljubljana.

The value of the project is 1.5 million EUR, of which 350,000 EUR is allocated to Ljubljana.
