New green areas along the vodnikova road
The green park space with the path with playthings, arranged on the basis of forest pedagogics, came to life on 19 June, 2014 by the Vodnikova Road in Šiška.
The new path strewn with playthings thus allows children from the urban environment to actively spend their leisure time and relaxation in close proximity of nature on the principle of forest pedagogics.
Location at the Vodnikova Road was suitable for the arrangement of playthings because of its natural terrain on the brinks of the forest. The path constitutes 10 stations that are connected in a physical, sensory, artistic and spatial experience. Through free play on such a playground children find more entertainment and more ways of use. The path of the parent and child separate at the start to meet again and intertwine through various play stations along the path. These stations demand of the child to show manual, motoric and thinking skills, while shifting through intertwined shelters, the tunnel, ground markings, balancing tree trunks, logs and obstacles.
The path for playing is built from natural materials only with no special instructions on how a child should construct something. Thus, the children have limitless possibilities where they can combine, take away, construct and use their imagination as well as show their innovation and creativity by doing this. The plan for the path was made by the Špelinice Institute and they used trees that were damaged because of this year’s frost injury and ice damage to create the equipment and playthings. The volunteers from Bavaria helped in path arrangements – 9 young people aged from 19–24 years who participate in the IdA Programme “Integration durch Austausch” that takes place in the operational framework of the European Social Fund in Germany. The main goal of this programme is providing help to young people in developing their skills needed to enter the labour market.
The project of comprehensive arrangement of the new park space that spans 5,700 m2 was designed by the Superius Company and works were performed by the Lavaco Company (earthworks, arrangement and stabilisation of the path, multi-purpose playthings and planting of grass).
The value of the project totals 60,000 €. It was financed by the City of Ljubljana.
