New museum stores for ljubljana city museum and galleries

Museums are guardians and caretakers of movable and fixed cultural heritage, as they have numerous objects in their collections of which the public can only see a small fraction at exhibitions. The majority of objects are kept in stores, which are often too small or unsuitable for these impressive museum collections.

The shortage of space in the stores at Ljubljana City Museum and Galleries was finally resolved at the start of this year, when they took into use new storage space at Ljubljana Technology Park - Brdo from the City of Ljubljana on 9 January 2013. Thus came to fruition a decades-old dream of Ljubljana City Museum staff who had until then resolved the storage question in a variety of smaller locations around Ljubljana.

One of these was the store in Trnovo, from where the movement of items to the new stores at Ljubljana Technology Park - Brdo will proceed until the end of the year. At Brdo, staff from the conservation department will undertake any necessary treatment after a thorough inspection, such as fumigating wooden furniture infested with woodworm, before finding the objects a place on the shelves.
