New resident at ljubljana zoo

The herd of male giraffes at Ljubljana Zoo has recently acquired a new member – big Reinhold from Hungary.

On Thursday evening, 17 March 2011, Gal, Rastko, Maks and Cvetko, the four male giraffes at Ljubljana Zoo, became five with the happy arrival of a new adult male from Sosto Zoo in Hungary.

The new resident at the Zoo is called Reinhold, born on 11 April 2002 at Ausberg Zoo in Germany. At the age of two he moved to Sosto Zoo in Hungary. Like three of the younger Ljubljana giraffes he is a Rothschild giraffe, which is the tallest giraffe subspecies, while Gal is a Reticulated or Somali Giraffe.

Reinhold is truly enormous, as he measures over four and a half metres and is a metre larger than the others. Visitors can already see him through the glass window of a platform. He is easy to recognise as he is the biggest and significantly darker than the rest. He feels fine in his new home and has a fantastic appetite.

You are more than welcome to come and see him!
