New ribja brv footbridge
On Sunday, 6 July 2014, the wooden footbridge Ribja Brv connecting the embankments of Hribarjevo Nabrežje and Cankarjevo Nabrežje was removed. The foundations for a new footbridge began immediately and will be completed in middle of August.
The existing wooden footbridge was initially designed as a temporary construction. The City of Ljubljana has decided to replace the wooden footbridge with a more lasting construction, because of the wear and tear of years on the wood and danger to the pedestrians. The Chamber of Architecture and Environmental Planning of Slovenia announced a public architecture competition for the "Ljubljanica River Footbridge between Ribji Trg and Gerberjevo Stopnišče". The authors of the wining project are Peter and Boštjan Gabrijelčič with their colleagues at the ARHITEKTURA d.o.o. bureau and the construction author Gregor Cipot from the PONTING d.o.o. bureau.
The new footbridge is 25 m long, 3.4 m wide and designed as steel frame structure with walking surface of epoxy layers and intermediate electric heating foil and surface layer of profiled aluminium profiles. The footbridge railing is of pasted colourless security glass.
