Olympic heroes in ljubljana

On Tuesday 14 August 2012, Mayor Zoran Janković welcomed Slovenia’s Olympic athletes to City Hall and subsequently addressed them at a grand reception in Congress Square organised by the Slovenian Olympic Committee.

London 2012, the XXX summer Olympiad of the modern era wound up with a closing ceremony at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday 12 August 2012 after 16 days of competition.

The Slovenian Olympic team did the national flag proud in London, bringing home a total of four medals (a gold, a silver and two bronze):

  • Urška Žolnir – gold medal
  • Primož Kozmus – silver medal
  • Rajmond Debevec - bronze medal
  • Iztok Čop and Luka Špik - bronze medal

At Tuesday’s reception for the Olympians in the Right Atrium at City Hall, Mayor Zoran Janković presented symbolic awards to gold medallist Urška Žolnir, silver medallist Primož Kozmus and bronze medallists Iztok Čop and Luka Špik and their trainers.

Bronze medallist Rajmond Debevec and his coach Lojze Mikulič were given their awards by the Mayor the previous week, as thereafter Debevec was leaving to take part in a World Cup competition.

 

 

London 2012 Paralympic Games

Between 29 August and 9 September, Olympic venues in the UK play host to the world’s best athletes with disabilities.

The leader of the Slovenian delegation to the 2012 Paralympics is National Assembly member and Ljubljana City Councillor Roman Jakič.
