Opening of the sunshine garden – sensory trail
At the Sonček ('Sunshine') unit of Črnuče Kindergarten on Wednesday 12 June 2013, Mayor Zoran Janković welcomed visitors to the opening of the Sunshine Garden, a sensory trail.
The idea to transform part of the grassy playground at the Sonček unit into a sensory trail in which children encounter a pond and its inhabitants with running water – a spring and stream – was born last year. Part of the field is intended to be a flowering meadow, which are gradually disappearing in our area, with a rock garden from natural materials and planted with scented plants.
Another area allows a withdrawal into privacy. Shrubs have been planted with the intention of attracting birds and mammals for whom feeders, nesting boxes and mammal houses will be provided. Observation hides will enable the children to watch, get to know and explore the wildlife and natural world with all of their senses.
Črnuče Kindergarten have been actively engaged in setting up the sensory trail since 2011. To this end, they have used funding for enrichment activities for pre-school children from City of Ljubljana public kindergartens, funds raised at New Year bazaars and donations. Parents also took part in the work and especially the kindergarten staff, as without them there would be no Sunshine Garden.
