State visit of queen elizabeth ii and the duke of edinburgh to slovenia

At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Slovenia Dr. Danilo Türk, Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh are to make a state visit to Slovenia from 21-23 October 2008.

Due to the Royal visit, from the early morning of Tuesday 21st until the evening of Thursday 23rd, part of Miklošičeva cesta will be closed, as the Royal couple are to sleep at the Grand Hotel Union. Supplies to Nazorjeva ulica from Slovenska cesta will be possible until 9.30am.

 

On Wednesday 22nd from 5am until 3pm the car parks on Ciril-Metodov trg and Krekov trg will be closed, as will the car park on Kongresni trg until 7pm. Cesta slovenskih kmečkih uporov leading to Ljubljana Castle will be closed from the early morning until 3pm. Short term road closures on every major road junction in the Slovenian capital will be enforced by the police.

 

Mayor Zoran Janković is to welcome the Royal couple to Ljubljana Castle for a gala lunch to honour Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, arranged with the British Ambassador to Slovenia Tim Simmons and his wife. As well as the Mayor and his wife, the lunch will also be attended by Deputy Mayors Jadranka Dakić, Aleš Čerin, Prof. Janez Koželj and Jani Möderndorfer. After lunch, the Mayor is to accompany the Queen across Tromostovje.

 

We kindly invite the Slovene public to greet the Royal couple during their walk about on the Three Bridges and Prešeren square on Wednesday 22 October from approx. 14.15 to 14.45 pm.
