Petanque european championships

The 5th European Women's Petanque Championships run in Ljubljana from 19 to 22 August 2010.

At the 5th European Women's Championships in petanque, an interesting French game with balls, the 31 best women's teams from 30 countries are to take part. Slovenia, as the host, is able to enter two teams.

The event is groundbreaking not only due to the record high number of participating countries and because, for the first time in the history of competitive petanque, such a major international competition is being held in Slovenia, but also because Slovenia is also the first central European CEP member state to which the role of organiser of this prestigious competition has ever been entrusted. The honorary patron of the event is Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković.

'Nest' of Anka the little dragon to be in Zalog

The battles between Europe's best petanque teams will be played out in a new Zalog sports hall that can offer competitors all the comfort necessary, while affording spectators more than 800 seats. In addition to the three-day competition of the championships themselves, of which the official mascot is to be Anka the little dragon as produced by renowned artist and designer Franci Nemec, there is also to be a special promotional programme.
