Plečnik’s kiosk at vegova street renovated

The kiosk at Vegova street made according to the design of a famous architect Jože Plečnik has in July once more come to life in its original form.

Jože Plečnik authored numerous and diverse open space designs including masterpieces such as bridges, river banks, squares, parks and gardens that gave an air of recognisability to Ljubljana and the status of an organised Central European city. However, now they represent important elements of the cultural heritage of the city.

In the last fifteen years most of the open space designs which include the Triple Bridge, Shoemaker’s Bridge, Šance Promenade, Zoisova and Vegova Streets, Tivoli Promenade, Trnovo Pier, Hrvatski Square, Congress Square and the Zvezda Park, Hradecky Bridge – Bridge of Death and the Roman Wall were renovated.

Among the latest renovations of Plečnik’s architecture is the recently renovated Plečnik’s kiosk from 1930 on Vegova street. The investment and maintenance works were underway last November. The design for renovation of kiosk doors that were installed recently was done under the supervision of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.

A lighted panel showcasing the notice of the Plečnik’s kiosk from Slovenski Narod newspaper of 14 May 1930 was put in the interior of the kiosk. Here you can also see a photo of the kiosk operating at that time.

The Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage is drawing up a proposal to include the Plečnik’s heritage onto the UNESCO World Heritage List.
