Pocket parks
Four streets in Ljubljana and a square are richer for temporary city parks, called pocket parks. Each of the parks is the size of a parking spot and it represents the concept of reuse.
These pockets are intended for relaxing and socialising in spaces where once stood parked cars. The City of Ljubljana and the Prostorož Association aim to interest the citizens into the project of new perception of public space and spreading the 3R idea: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The materials and equipment used in setting up pocket parks is also recycled and used.
The temporary city parks are currently placed on the streets of Beethovnova, Igriška and Slomškova, the Rimska Cesta and Gornji Trg. Local residents and shopkeepers will take care of them.
The pocket parks are a long-term project of cultivating public space to develop a method of awakening and managing the degraded space at the urban city's centre. These spatial interventions are not merely artistic installations in public space, but also a serious search for new urban possibilities to put the city's area in use. The main objective is to point out certain areas of the city.
The pocket parks are somewhat of containers in the size of standardised parking spots for personal vehicles, which can relieve the great heat load of the serried built-up city's centre area.
The project expenses were approximately 21 thousand Euro.
Pocket parks for a greener Ljubljana!
Have a pleasant time in the 3R environment!
