President of Greece at City Hall

On Thursday, 22 April 2021, Mayor Zoran Janković hosted the President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, at the City Hall.

Katerina Sakellaropoulou is the first female President of the Hellenic Republic. She took office in March last year. During the visit, she pointed out that she was delighted to visit the City Hall in Ljubljana, a city with a long and rich history, which is also connected with Greek mythology and the story of the Argonauts. She added that Ljubljana lies in the middle of Europe and that Slovenia belongs to the same European family as Greece.

Mayor Zoran Janković welcomed the guest in Ljubljana and highlighted the good relations between the capitals of Slovenia and the Hellenic Republic, which have continued since 2000 when we signed the Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation between Ljubljana and Athens.

The President is also active in the field of environmental protection, and she is the author of several articles and essays on matters of constitutional and environmental law. She and the mayor also discussed the title of European Green Capital, which Ljubljana proudly held in 2016. The mayor pointed out that all cities should follow the principles of sustainable development and act according to the principles of the European Green Capital.
