On Tuesday 15 February 2011 the Mayor welcomed President of Macedonia Dr Gjorge Ivanov and his wife Maja Ivanova.

Dr Gjorge Ivanov was born in Valandovo on 2 May 1960. In 1982 he completed his studies at the Faculty of Law in Skopje, where in 1998 he was awarded the title Doctor of Sciences in the field of law. From 1988 to 1995 he was an editor at Radio Macedonia, and in 1995 returned to the Faculty of Law in Skopje as Assistant Dean.

As priorities for his five-year term, President Dr Gjorge Ivanov highlights Macedonian accession to the EU and NATO as well as resolution of the 18-year dispute with Greece over the name of the country. He first visited Ljubljana and City Hall in May 2009.
