President of Serbia at the City Hall

On 8 October 2015, Mayor Zoran Janković welcomed the President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić at the City Hall where together they opened an exhibition dedicated to the scientist Mihajlo Pupin.

The exhibition »Mihajlo Pupin, the scientist who marked the telecommunication century« is open to the public in the Historical Atrium of the City Hall and is dedicated to Mihajlo Pupin, an American scientist of Serbian descent who was chosen to symbolise the 100th anniversary of the a new world era in radio waves broadcasting.
The United Nations organisation UNESCO has associated the beginning of the new world of telecommunications created in 1915 with the inventor Mihajlo Pupin, the father of modern telephony whose inventions made long-distance communication possible and connected people all over the planet.
The designated organiser of the events commemorating this important year is the Republic of Serbia, in collaboration with the United States of America.

Many scientific discoveries in the field of radio waves are contributed to Mihajlo Pupin, supported by his patents from 1915: sending of radio waves through transmitters, development of the radio and radio technology, as well as new types of wire and mobile communication.
UNESCO declared 2015 the International Telecommunication Year and Pupin’s discoveries regarding radio waves transmission as the most important inventions enabling modern telecommunications.
They are also the foundation of the world wide net and modern mobile technology.
