Prison at ljubljana castle
Ljubljana Castle has been enriched by a new permanent exhibition – Prison at Ljubljana Castle, which is on show in the renovated premises of the prison cells beneath the Palace Hall.
The new Prison at Ljubljana Castle standing exhibition follows the concept of the comprehensive presentation of the history of the castle as an integral element in Ljubljana's urban development, which has had a variety of visages and purposes over the centuries. The presentation is based on the combination of the showcase of the built heritage of the cells, which were constructed in the second penitential phase (1868–1895), and contents that clarify the role of the castle as a whole in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Prison at Ljubljana Castle is open in winter (from 1 October to 31 March) from 10am to 6pm and in summer (from 1 April to 30 September) from 9am to 9pm. Admission is free.
A look around the prison rounds off nicely the content at Ljubljana castle, which starts with a ride on the funicular to a visit to the Virtual Castle, the Viewing Tower and the standing exhibition on Slovenian history to all of the respective other current exhibitions or content.
