Project URBforDAN brought many improvements to the city's forests

At the end of September, we successfully completed the European project URBforDAN – Management and Utilization of Urban Forests as Natural Heritage in Danube Cities, in the framework of which we implemented measures and developed approaches for even more efficient management of urban forests and their protection.

The most visible results of the project delight visitors to the city forests on the hills of Golovec and Šmarna gora. There, among other things, we designed several entry points, set up information boards, signposts and direction boards, wooden benches, tables and two platforms for relaxation.

With an emphasis on forest pedagogics, we set up a number of learning points. Among the most interesting points of this kind on Golovec are two forest classrooms or teaching aids – a display case presenting indigenous tree species at Golovec and a forest planetarium. We have also designed a new thematic trail, which we named Into the Forest for Health.

The project was implemented within the framework of the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme and was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).
