Promoting walking and cycling on newly renovated streets or roads

In line with EU stipulations renovation notifications have to be set up for at least five years on renovated roads and streets to promote walking and cycling.

The City of Ljubljana is continuously renovating cycling and pedestrian surfaces. Among those there are 11 falling within the scope of the project of developing the cycling network in the City of Ljubljana. The project is supported by the CTN mechanism, which is partially financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Slovenia.

In line with EU stipulations we have to set up renovation notifications on renovated roads and streets for at least five years to promote walking and cycling and at the same time inform users that funds for the renovation were also provided by the EU.
We have decided not to simply set up information boards on the aforementioned roads and streets but to introduce an environmentally unobtrusive solution, which is also informative, useful and interesting enough to engage the citizens.
And so, we have already set up a smart bench on Trubar Street, first in Slovenia, transforming the existing urban furniture into their smart versions, not having to set up new urban furniture for this purpose.
We are going to set up useful urban furniture with the project description on other streets, as well, in some places smart benches and in others boards or additional bicycle stands.
