Quality of Sound Environment

April is month 4 of the green year in Ljubljana, the European Green Capital, and it has been dedicated to the quality of sound environment.

Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, has according to the European Commission conducted the most changes in the quality of life in the shortest period of time. Already in 2007, we started implementing the Vision of Ljubljana 2025 and pursued a sustainable development of the city, reaching for the set goals – to ensure a high quality of life for our citizens in a green, safe, clean, and tidy city.
Such title is of great importance for Ljubljana, since it is now placed on the European as well as global map of sustainable cities, and at the same time it is the only city in Central and Southeast Europe with the title.

Point. For you.

The April theme of the green year has been the quality of sound environment, since 20 April is the international noise awareness day. At the information point of the European Green Capital in front of the city hall, many interesting events will take place daily. The Department for Environmental Protection will organize a lecture Sound, Noise and Decibels; some interesting contents are prepared by pupils of Ljubljana elementary schools; the Technical Museum of Slovenia organizes workshops Brenčač – game of our grandparents, sound quiz Don’t let the noise drive you into despair: sound surprises; workshop for children Mobi birds, temporary exhibition Almost everything about Sound, and it will also present a sound toy – Drawdio pencil.
On 20 April, the international noise awareness day with the slogan Let us keep quite areas in urban environment, the National Institute of Public Health will prepare a presentation of the importance of a quite environment for health and wellbeing, stressing the impact of sound environment around kindergartens and schools.
We would like to invite you to the presentation of Razslušnica – sound postcard that will take you through the sound space of Ljubljana, and interactive ringing city map entitled Acoustics of bells in Ljubljana.
At the Point. For you., a workshop Collecting data on sound environment in Ljubljana via mobile phones will take place. Our citizens are invited to participate in collecting information to create a sound picture of Ljubljana. Using an app for smartphones, the participants can record sounds at random locations in the city, then fill in the questionnaire where they submit answers how the sounds affect them.
At the Point.For you., an interactive installation will be presented with the purpose of informing passers-by on sound and noise in the city, relevant legislation, and measures on noise and noise research.
Part of the April programme will also be an expert panel on 7 April in the city hall, entitled Sound Ecology of Ljubljana, for the general public.

The Point.For you. is opened every day, in winter from 10 am to 6 pm, in summer to 8 pm.
