Rainbow Cities in Action – guidelines for local communities

As part of the Rainbow Cities Network, the City of Ljubljana participated in the project Rainbow Cities in Action – LGBTI Policy Guidelines, financed by the European Union.

The project's main goal was to prepare guidelines for LGBT+ policies in local self-governments and thereby encourage local communities that are not active in this area to start with activities. The guidelines were prepared by representatives of rainbow cities and representatives of non-governmental organisations over a period of two years, during which we met at workshops in various cities – Berlin, Aarhus and Cork, and at the final conference in Kotor.

In the City of Ljubljana, we are very proud to be included in the network of rainbow cities, as we have many good practices that we can share with other cities in this field. Thus, in 2013, we published the Rainbow Ljubljana brochure and a year later introduced the LGBT-Friendly Certificate, which has so far been awarded to over 50 organisations (including the City Administration of the City of Ljubljana, public institutes of the City of Ljubljana, kindergartens and primary schools, faculties, IBM, etc.).
