Ramps to facilitate access to shops and cafes

In the City of Ljubljana, in cooperation with the public company Voka Snaga, we are setting up ramps to facilitate access to some shops and cafes in the old city centre for physically impaired persons and families with baby strollers. This is one of the measures to increase accessibility in the city for all.

In the area of the city of Ljubljana, we provide easier access to more than 200 public buildings of the City of Ljubljana – kindergartens and elementary schools, pharmacies, health and sports facilities and administrative buildings. In some places access is still slightly hindered due to entrance steps. Primarily for people with movement impairments, families with baby strollers and the elderly, who have greater difficulties managing stairs, this represents an obstacle we are striving to eliminate.

We are building upon our commitment to facilitate accessibility by implementing a pilot project, within which we intend to equip ten business premises in the old city center, owned by the City of Ljubljana, with ramps suited for wheelchairs and baby strollers.

With the implementation of this project we will further contribute to a higher quality of life in our city and improve accessibility, which falls under the purview of the Council for the elimination of architectural and communication barriers of the City of Ljubljana as an advisory body of the Mayor.
