Rcero ljubljana project
On Wednesday 7 March 2012, the local authorities of Gorenja vas-Poljane and Žiri signed accords of accession to common waste management at the Ljubljana Regional Waste Management Centre – RCERO Ljubljana.
The project to upgrade the Ljubljana Regional Waste Management Centre – RCERO Ljubljana is Slovenia’s most comprehensive in the problematic waste management field and is 65.88% financed by EU Cohesion Funding.
“The RCERO project is a long-term solution to the waste management problem in a modern and environmentally-friendly way” emphasised Deputy Mayor Čerin in his introduction and he explained that two parts of the project, a waste water treatment plant for leachates and a storage area have already been built. For the third, most demanding part of construction, namely the construction of waste management facilities, the process of contractor selection is ongoing.
By signing this contract, the signatories agreed that the local authorities of Gorenja vas-Poljane and Žiri will supply, and the Snaga public company d.o.o. will receive for processing 545 tons of mixed communal waste and 50 tons of biodegradable waste a year from Gorenja vas-Poljane and 495 tons of mixed communal waste and 60 tons of biodegradable waste a year from Žiri.
The main investor in RCERO Ljubljana is the City of Ljubljana, while besides the City of Ljubljana, the project includes 26 other local authorities (Brezovica, Dobrova-Polhov Gradec, Dol pri Ljubljani, Horjul, Ig, Medvode, Škofljica, Velike Lašče, Domžale, Kamnik, Komenda, Trzin, Lukovica, Moravče, Vodice, Mengeš, Grosuplje, Ivančna gorica, Dobrepolje, Ribnica, Loški Potok, Sodražica, Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Bloke, Žiri and Gorenja vas-Poljane), thus RCERO Ljubljana is one of Slovenia’s most important waste management projects. The whole project, for which the European Commission issued consent in April 2009, is led and managed by the Ljubljana public company Snaga, d.o.o. by authority of the City of Ljubljana and the other local authorities.
