Regional theatre festival Ruta Grupa Triglav 2023

Between 30 January and 4 February 2023, performances by six top theatres from the republics of former Yugoslavia will take place on the stage of the Ljubljana City Theatre (Mestno gledališče ljubljansko) within the framework of the twelfth Ruta Grupa Triglav festival.

The regional theatre festival, which moves across the stage boards of six capital cities and writes a resounding story about connecting city theatres, already premiered in Ljubljana last year and impressed the local audience.

The Ruta Grupa Triglav festival represents a strong bond between the city theatres in the territory of the republics of former Yugoslavia. The association consists of the Belgrade Drama Theatre, the Drama Theatre Skopje, the Chamber Theatre 55 in Sarajevo, the City Theatre Podgorica from Montenegro, the Ulysses Theatre from Zagreb and the Ljubljana City Theatre (MGL). The goals of the association are to institutionalize the cooperation between the mentioned theatres and enable the audience to see productions from the region. Again for this year's festival, the visiting theatres have chosen top productions with which they want to introduce themselves to the Slovenian audience. The performances will be followed by discussions with the creators, moderated by dramaturge Petra Pogorevc. The novelty of this year's festival is that the doors of the Ljubljana City Theatre will be open for spectators a good hour before the performance for relaxed socializing and chatting.
During the festival, each of the theatres will host some 300 theatre creators (actors, technical and other support services), who will perform at least six shows in each city in front of 2,000 or even 2,500 spectators. It is an important cultural event that is gaining acclaim both locally and regionally.

The festival will officially open on Monday, 30 January, at 19:00, with the premiere of the drama The Celebration (Thomas Vinterberg, Mogens Rukov, Bo Hr. Hansen) directed by the renowned director Janusz Kica. The honorary patron of the Ruta festival is Mayor Zoran Janković, who will also open the festival.
