Renovated Slovenska Street

On 1 September 2015 a new traffic regime came into force on the renovated main part of Slovenska Street. The speed limit is 30 km/h, and some city buses and vehicles with permits issued by the City of Ljubljana can drive again on Slovenska Street. The trial period is till the end of 2015.

City passenger traffic buses

Since 1 September 2015 buses on seven lines are driving again on Slovenska Street: 1(1D), 2, 6 (6B), 9, 11 (11B), 14 (14B) and 18 (18L). Lines remaining on Slovenska Street were selected according to the criteria of the highest number of passenger trips and the number of transfers. The chosen lines account for 80 percent of passengers who are changing buses in the city centre.
The new central junction for transfers is the crossroads between Gosposvetska Street, Slovenska Street and Dalmatinova Street. A joint area of bus stops enables passengers to change buses and exit closer to the city centre as the stop on Gosposvetska Street in the direction of the centre and the stop Bavarski dvor towards the centre have been moved closer to Ajdovščina.

Mostly eco-friendly buses are going to drive on the new section of Slovenska Street. With the acquisition of 30 new ecological articulated buses, which are to be delivered in the first half of 2016, only ‘green’ eco buses powered by natural gas and electricity are going to drive on Slovenska Street by June 2016 at the latest.

Throughout September representatives of the company LPP will be present at Slovenska Street to inform the passengers and gather their impressions. At the same time city wardens will be overseeing the enforcement of the new traffic regime.

Pedestrians are kindly asked to be careful while crossing Slovenska Street. During the test period there are no traffic lights foreseen at the crossroads with Čopova Street and Cankarjeva Street. The decision on setting up traffic lights will be made subsequently based on the opinions of pedestrians, cyclists and buses using the common area.

Vehicles with permits issued by the City of Ljubljana for Slovenska Street

The main section of Slovenska Street is open for vehicles of rescue and utility services, delivery services and residents as well as for the needs of the post office Pošta Slovenija and hotel Slon. During the trial period taxis will not have access to the main part of Slovenska Street.
Residents have access to their parking spaces 24 hours a day from Šubičeva Street. Access for delivery vehicles is allowed every day from 9 AM till 11 AM, and in front of the hotel Slon a short-term stopping area for vehicles with hotel guests is going to be set up. All vehicles have to obtain permits issued by the City of Ljubljana for Slovenska Street. Permits will be revoked in case of abuse.

Modern displays at bus stops

Within the scope of the title Ljubljana – European Green Capital 2016 the bus stops on the renovated section of Slovenska Street are going to be equipped with state of the art technology and displays with low energy consumption and therefore minimal impact on the environment as they can be powered by solar energy enabling green digitalisation of city services and solutions for the so called smart cities.
There are 4 stops on this section of the street and each is going to be equipped with 8 displays, that is, 32 in total. Accurate bus arrival time forecasts are going to be displayed alongside static bus timetables and passenger announcements.
The hardware and software for running electronic paper displays has been developed by the company Visionect, and with this technology Ljubljana will have state of the art bus stops.

The trial period for the new traffic regime on the Slovenska Street shall continue till the end of 2015 and during this time the citizens of Ljubljana are going to be asked for their opinion on the new regime.
