Renovated Švicarija

On 8 May 2017, in the heart of Tivoli Park the renovated Švicarija opened its doors, a contemporary art centre, a place where artists can create and the central stage of this year’s Biennial of Graphic Arts.

With the renovation of the former hotel Švicarija the City of Ljubljana acquired 2,232.40 m² of new space for the needs of the art centre. We have increased the number of art studios and ensured work conditions for the prospective creators in the field of visual arts.

By concentrating studios in Tivoli Park we are developing an art district which will not only serve as a work area for artists but also as an open public space with distinct promotional, educational and tourist programmes.

The renovated Švicarija houses 11 sculpting and painting studios, 2 studios for young artists and 4 art residences for the international exchange of artists. The whole ground floor is foreseen for the public programme – exhibitions and other events as well as educational programmes carried out by the International Centre of Graphic Arts. By way of such programmes the building is linked to the public institute International Centre of Graphic Arts, operating in the Tivoli Mansion, and central Slovenian galleries in the immediate vicinity.

The investment, which was fully financed by the City of Ljubljana, amounted to 5.7 million euro.
