Renovated wedding halls

On 8 April 2014 both of the wedding halls were opened with a festive and symbolic wedding ceremony at the Ljubljana Castle.

The renovated Blue and White Halls, better known as the Wedding Halls at the Ljubljana Castle and a home of 700 to 800 wedding ceremonies annually, are glowing anew.

The project manager of renovation and revitalisation of the Ljubljana Castle was selected back in the 1968, while the renovation itself began in 1979 at the M tract, which holds the Blue and White Halls, and it remained the sole renovated object at the Ljubljana Castle as space for several programmes. The Blue and White Halls were mostly used for wedding ceremonies when the City Hall moved its marriage activity to the Ljubljana Castle in 1989. From then on, they were better known as the Wedding Halls.

After decades of use it was necessary to consider thorough renovation in 2011, when space no longer suited the marriage protocol standards and it was pointed out by the users, especially the wedding ceremony officials from the Administrative Unit Ljubljana. The materials and installations from the 70s were aged and exhausted.

The renovation began in October 2013 and ended in March 2014. The estimated investment value of 1,500,000.00 EUR is fully financed by the City of Ljubljana.

The renovation basis was emphasising the location – visually incorporating the internal design of both halls in the historical surroundings of the castle. This effect was achieved with distinct reading of the space and relationship between the new, light elements of the solemn space and the massive building heritage, light, freshness and colour. The spaces open to the courtyard which includes the castle in the hall activities and introduces an important spatial and content element.
