Renovation of Čopova ulica

Monday 22 April 2013 saw the start of work on the renovation of communal infrastructure on Čopova ulica.

The work will be ongoing all day every working day for an anticipated four months. During this period, the street will offer restricted access, but suppliers will be enabled to make their deliveries.

The renovation work will be carried out in several phases and begins with the water and sewerage network, including domestic water pipes and waste water connections, the other pipes for rainwater and remodelling of the street. The sewerage network on Čopova ulica was built in 1934, and the public water supply with its cast iron pipes as early as 1889.

The renovated Čopova ulica is to be paved with Pohorje tonalite slabs (or cobblestones in the lower areas of the street), arranged in a halftone fishbone pattern, in which way the renovation will preserve the geometric style that Čopova ulica possesses today. Where the street meets building edges, the halftone will be thickened and give the street the sense of the pavement that it one had. The entire surface of the renovated street will be smooth, while on the deviation near the entrance to the passageway between Čopova and Nazorjeva there are to be new trees, benches and a drinking fountain. At the Prešeren Square end of the street subsurface waste receptacles are also to be installed. The Čopova ulica renovation is also to include replacement of the street lighting, while the street axis will be provided with inox tactile marking for the blind and partially sighted. The above-ground work in the Čopova ulica renovation project is by the Medprostor architectural studio.

The work will be undertaken by Hidrotehnik d.d. Ljubljana, which was selected by public tender. The total cost is €1.3m including VAT.
