Ronald m. Šega at city hall
On 24 November 2014, the Mayor Zoran Janković welcomed Ronald M. Šega, an American astronaut with Slovenian roots.
Ronald M. Šega, PhD, son of Slovenian emigrants visited Slovenia upon the invitation of AmCham – American Chamber of Commerce in Slovenia, which this year celebrates its 15th anniversary.
At this important anniversary they organised an event dedicated to all members, supporters and friends of AmCham where the chief guest and keynote speaker was Ronald Michael Šega, PhD, Major General, military pilot, physicist, Head of the Department of Physics and related sciences at the Colorado State University as well as an American astronaut.
Ronald M. Š’s first flight into space was in 1994 as a Discovery STS-60 flight engineer, and later he was coordinator of crew training in space cooperation of the United States and Russia. He was also a commander pilot of the Atlantis STS-76 expedition, during which the shuttle on joined with the Russian space station Mir 24 March 1996. Mr. Šega has then worked in the air force reserves until 2005 when he retired with the rank of Major General.
