City of Ljubljana Deputy Mayor, Aleš Čerin, accepted the Shanghai delegation on 22 September 2014 at City Hall.

The delegation was headed by the Executive Deputy Mayor of the Shanghai, Tu Guangshao, and accompanied by the Deputy General Director of the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Department as well as few other respected colleagues from various mostly tourist city government departments. The delegation at the City Hall was joined by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Slovenia, Zhang Xianyi.

The purpose of the delegation's visit to Europe is to strengthen the relations between the cities; after visiting Ljubljana, they continued their way to Zagreb. Both cities have organised a touristic promotion of Shanghai with a photography exhibition of glimpses from life in the city.

Ljubljana has traditionally well relations with the city of Shanghai. The cities have also signed the Letter of Intent of collaboration and inter-city exchange in 2005.
