Signing of the twinning agreement between Ljubljana and Sarajevo

Mayor Zoran Janković and the Mayor of Sarajevo, Dr. Benjamina Karić, signed the Twinning Agreement between the City of Sarajevo and the City of Ljubljana.

Building on a long-standing successful cooperation

Both signatories emphasized that the agreement is an upgrade of the long-standing successful cooperation between the cities in many areas. Mayor of the City of Sarajevo Dr. Benjamina Karić welcomed the mayor Zoran Janković to Sarajevo and stated that Sarajevo loves him. On the occasion, she said: »I am convinced that from today on our cooperation will be of even higher quality, that we will expand it further, including in the field of green policies and smart cities. We can learn a lot from Ljubljana. This is not just a formal twinning agreement, it is an enhancement of friendship.«

 »I am pleased that we signed the twinning agreement today because we have always cooperated very well with the city of Sarajevo in all areas. I am also proud that I am an honorary citizen of Sarajevo and that the people of Sarajevo accept me as one of their own. I have always loved this city. With twinning, we will further deepen our relations, and in the future, we will continue to cooperate and share good practices,« added Mayor Zoran Janković.

Commitments made

Among other things, the two cities undertook to exchange information and experience in the following areas of activity within the jurisdiction of city administrations: education, culture, sports, tourism, economy, cultural and historical heritage, urban planning, improvement of environmental protection, community infrastructure, energy efficiency, investments, joint application for EU funds, youth issues, healthcare and social policy, international relations, city public services and other areas of common interest. We also pledged to work towards strengthening regional cooperation, building a more successful future and maintaining peace and stability in the region and Europe.
