Sofia Day in Ljubljana

On Friday, 4 September 2015, the City of Ljubljana is hosting the Sofia Day organised in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Slovenia.

The official delegation of the Municipality of Sofia headed by deputy mayor Irina Savina is going to be received by the mayor Zoran Janković and deputy mayor Dejan Crnek, who will afterwards discuss the possibilities for deepening cooperation between the cities and carrying out joint programmes in different areas oriented towards improving the quality of life.

For the Sofia Day a cultural programme is prepared with the purpose of promoting different aspects of the Bulgarian cultural-historical tradition and the culinary wealth of Bulgaria. In front of the City Hall the Sofia Brass Orchestra and the singer Polly Genova are going to perform a rich repertoire of classical and jazz works, as well as works of famous Bulgarian composers, followed by the folklore dance group » Pendari« from Vienna presenting Bulgarian folk dances. Alongside these events tourist stands with vine and culinary delights from Bulgaria are going to be set up.

Within the scope of the Sofia Day the Historical Atrium of the City Hall is hosting an exhibition of renowned contemporary Bulgarian painters Nikolay Yanakiev and Vassil Stoyev, whose works are exhibited in many galleries and are part of private collections in numerous countries across Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and Japan. The exhibition is open until 13 September.

The highlight of the Sofia Day is the opera »Tristan and Isolde« by Richard Wagner, which the Sofia National Opera and Ballet is going to perform at the 63. Ljubljana Festival.
