Success of Ljubljana’s pupils

On 2 February 2017 at the City Hall, Mayor Zoran Janković hosted pupils from primary schools Danila Kumar, Dravlje in France Bevk who were successful in international debating competitions in the English language which were held in Thailand and the USA.

June last year, pupils from these schools took part in the World Scholar's Cup, an international debating competition in English, held in Thailand.
Children from the Dravlje primary school and the Danila Kumar primary school achieved excellent results which qualified them for the Tournament of Champions at the Yale University in Connecticut, USA. Over 200 primary and secondary school teams from 38 countries participated in the tournament in the USA. 1400 children competed for individual medals in debates, quizzes and creative essay writing.
Lina Leskovec from the Dravlje primary school won the gold medal for the third place in the Tournament of Champions debate, a truly remarkable success, and in the DaVinci Scholars category Nina Anastazija Samardžija and Mik Marter from the Danila Kumar primary school won the 11th and 14th place.
Pupils from the primary schools Danila Kumar and Dravlje contributed to the successful outcome with several gold and silver team medals in individual categories.
