Successful kinodvor
2013 was a very successful year for Kinodvor. Last year, the city cinema attracted 122,781 visitors who came to see 1941 public screenings.
In the beginning of 2013, Kinodvor recorded a higher yearly turnout for the fourth consecutive year since the cinema was renovated in October 2008 and started operating under the auspices of the City of Ljubljana. Considering that the turnout in 2012 increased for more than 25 % compared to 2011, the results are deemed "exceptional". 2013 was also a very successful year for Kinodvor. The turnout remained approximately the same as the year before, in fact it has even increased a little: 122,781 visitors came to see 1941 public screenings to be precise.
Kinodvor, the public institution of the City of Ljubljana, gained 53 % of its own resources in 2013, while 47 % were contributed by its founder City of Ljubljana. Income from ticket sales in 2013 represents 55 % of the Kinodvor's own resources, while in terms of its own share, the institution gained 22 % of market assets.
The turnout continued to increase with Kinobalon, a programme for children and young audiences. In 2013, 30,730 visitors came to see 418 Kinobalon screenings, from which 11,683 visitors watched 242 regular screenings and 19,047 enjoyed 176 school screenings which sometimes take place at the Slovenska Kinoteka due to lack of space.
The most popular film of 2013 was this year's Oscar nominee for the best foreign language film The Hunt from Denmark (Jagten, Thomas Vinterberag – Cinemania group). Haneke's Amour, last year's Oscar winner for best foreign language film (Michael Haneke – Continental films) came second, and the third film with the biggest turnout was Hannah Arendt (Margarethe von Trotta – Demiurg).
Last year, Kinodvor hosted two of the leading international film festivals: Ljubljana International Film Festival Liffe, produced by the Cankarjev Dom Culture and Congress centre, and Animateka which is organised in co-production with the Association for Reanimation of Storytelling 2 Reels.
In the 5th year of its existence, Kinodvor hence consolidated its turnout. Early morning or late evening screenings are becoming more and more popular. Film Rendez-Vous or season tickets for senior citizens remain sold out for morning screenings, while the number of season ticket holders for additional afternoon screenings doubled compared to last year.
In five years, Kinodvor also consolidated its place in the world of international cinematography as it holds important positions in boards of two very important cinematographic networks: Europa Cinemas which unites 3194 cinemas in 682 cities and 69 countries around the world, as well as the ECFA – the European Children's Film Association.
