Supporting an initiative by the association against sexual abuse

The City of Ljubljana is supporting an initiative to introduce a day to fight against child sex abuse, proposed by the Association against Sexual Abuse.

The Association against Sexual Abuse has addressed to the City of Ljubljana a proposal to support an initiative to declare one day a year as a European/global day to fight against the sexual abuse of children.

We at the City of Ljubljana are supporting this initiative as we would like to see an ever more critical and informed response to the sexual abuse of children and to contribute to the fact that the subject will no longer be taboo and that no violence against children will be in any way tolerated. It is also our task to assure that children – victims of sexual abuse are understood, believed and protected.

As was emphasised by the signatory of the letter of support on behalf of the City of Ljubljana Aleš Čerin, Deputy Mayor and pro tem performing the duties of Mayor of Ljubljana, we are aware that simply declaring a European or global day against the sexual abuse of children will not eliminate it, but we believe that it is possible in this way to raise public awareness and thereby prevent sexual violence against children and protect them.

The City of Ljubljana therefore supports not only the initiative by the Association against Sexual Abuse, but also all those approaches and ideas that prevent violence and child sex abuse and raise public awareness about them.
