The afe-innovnet network

The City of Ljubljana is part of the European network for innovation in age-friendly environments (AFE-INNOVNET).

With its years of experience with the senior citizens projects, Ljubljana will participate in the exchange of good practice, knowledge and experience within the AFE-INNOVNET network to develop solutions for establishing age-friendly environments.

Working with and for the senior citizens is surely a sign of good practice, which can be attested by other Slovenian cities and the responses from abroad. Shifts have been made in the area of institutional security and guaranteeing help at home with successful development and expansion of the new forms of the programme (e.g. daily activity centres for seniors).

The project is financed by the European Commission with the framework of the European programme CIP ICT PSP (Competitiveness and Innovation: Stimulating Innovation through Efficient Use and Assertion of ICT) and it will run for two years. The Health and Social Care Department of the City of Ljubljana is part of the network alongside 27 partners from 16 member countries of the European Union.

The AFE-INNOVNET network's main objectives:

  • mobilisation of local and regional authorities and other stakeholders (industries, research centres, universities, non-government organizations) to connect, benefit from each other’s experience and work together to promote initiatives on age-friendly environments across the Europe;
  • development of methodologies to help local and regional authorities assess the socio-economic impact of age-friendly environments and the benefits of involving senior citizens in the establishing process of the age-friendly environments solutions;
