The Award of the LGBT-friendly Certificate

On 13 May 2015, Mayor Zoran Janković is going to award LGBT-Friendly certificates. The recipients of the certificate are the Home Care Institute Ljubljana, the Public Housing Fund of the City of Ljubljana and the National Institute of Public Health.

The aforementioned organisations have thus committed themselves to ensure better understanding of fundamental human rights of LGBT persons, an inclusive environment for male and female LGBT colleagues, awareness raising among employees with respect to providing products and services to male and female LGBT users and higher sensibility for the detection of violations of the rights of LGBT persons in the working and user environment.

Before the award ceremony a round table was held at the City Hall with Mitja Blažič as the moderator and Roman Kuhar, PhD, Miha Lobnik, Anja Koletnik, MSc, Barbara Rajgelj, PhD, and Mojca Urek, PhD, as participants who presented their research results and own experience.
The mentioned activities fall under the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, marked on 17 May. It offers the opportunity to talk about everyday lives of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people.

For many years the City of Ljubljana has been supporting different programmes run by non-governmental organisations in this field and is actively contributing to the awareness-raising of the broader public. Namely, in cooperation with non-governmental organisations the booklet Rainbow Ljubljana was published at the end of 2013, and last year the LGBT-Friendly certificate was introduced. The good practices of the City of Ljubljana were also noticed abroad. The City of Ljubljana is involved in the European Rainbow Cities Network where the representatives of European cities (Vienna, Berlin, Torino, Zürich…) exchange good practices in the LGBT area.
