The Award-winning Ljubljana Puppet Theatre

The performance Duck, Death and the Tulip produced by the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and directed by Fabrizio Montecchi received the Grand Prix award at the 25th international theatre festival in Poland. This is already the tenth festival award received by this performance.

The performance with shadow puppets was inspired by a picture book with the original title Ente, Tod und Tulpe (2007) by the German writer and illustrator Wolf Erlbruch. Duck, Death and the Tulip is a gentle, friendly and discreet staging, acquainting children with death without any embellishment or pathos, but rather with a refined sense of delicacy of the chosen topic. The narrative about illness, departure and lost comes to life on the stage as a warm and vital story about the preciousness of closeness and friendship. It is a doubly suggestive fusion of live acting, animation and shadow theatre, visually attracting and astonishing the children and at the same time unobtrusively caressing them and provoking thought about the transience and vulnerability of life.

A more detailed description of the performance is available on the website of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre.
