The Bee Path in Ljubljana has been around for 10 years already

This year we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Bee Path. We designed it as one of the activities as part of the celebration of Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, and over the past decade, it has grown from a tourist route into a real bee network. We will mark the tenth anniversary with a varied program that will run until October.

Initially, we established a tourist route that connected content on the topic of cultural and natural heritage related to bees in the city. The route soon outgrew these frameworks and became what it is today – a network that connects 46 different stakeholders, from beekeepers, business organizations and cultural institutions to interested individuals. The Bee Path also became an incubator for new development ideas related to beekeeping, biodiversity and food supply in the area of the City of Ljubljana. It also developed into the Bee in the City program, which combines various content from the Swarm Shelter (Azil za roje), late mowing, wild pollinator monitoring, API kindergarten …

During this time, we have also taken the Bee Path into the international environment. Between 2018 and 2022, we participated in the URBAC III – Transfer Networks program, where we transferred the Bee Path to as many as 9 European cities as part of the BeePathNet and BeePathNet-Reloaded projects.

The Slovenian Beekeepers' Association has declared Ljubljana the most bee-friendly municipality three times for our bee-related activities. We received the title in 2017, 2019 and 2022.
