The city and its bees
The University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana is hosting the URBANBEES exhibition on bees in the urban environment, which will be held until 28 February 2014.
The exhibition employs interactive and interesting ways to portray the life of bees, their role in the environment and ways to preserve their biodiversity.
The travelling exhibition is a result of a five-year project within the LIFE+ Biodiversity programme, which strives to preserve and improve the biodiversity of wild bees in the urban environments of Europe.
The project coordinators are INRA Science&Impact and ArthroPologia from France. A number of cities in France have covered their urban surfaces with diverse vegetation within the programme frames and saw success in improving the environment for bees, one of the key pollinators and indicators of a healthy environment.
The exhibition will take place at the Tropical Glasshouse of the University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana until the end of February, and from there it will move to Graz in Austria.
