The first year of the trubar literature house

At 7pm on 2 September it was exactly a year since Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković held the gala opening of the Trubar Literature House on Stritarjeva ulica in Ljubljana and it welcomed its first visitors.

In its first programme year, the Trubar Literature House became a recognized cultural space in Ljubljana city centre, acquiring a loyal circle of visitors, which is in itself a recognition of the number and arrangements of the first operational year of the literature house.

There have already been as many as 382 events in the Trubar House of Literature, from the literary, book presentations, readings and reading performances, debates about culture and society and musical performances to the creative, about two-thirds of its programme, attended by over 8,000 visitors.

In this framework, in the first programme year from September last year to the end of June there were 144 literature discussions and presentations, 90 events in the broader fields of culture and society, 55 creative workshops, 28 musical events, 10 exhibitions and another 55 diverse events in the form of lectures, symposia, discussions, round tables and other internal or guest programmes. In addition to these, there were another 49 organised groups led around the house. In the cultural programme presentations were made from the house event podium by the not insignificant number in cultural production terms of 860 diverse creators, authors and executors.

The Trubar Literature House is set up in the oldest house in Ljubljana in which Primož Trubar lived for some years; it is on Ribji trg, (entrance at Stritarjeva 7), Ljubljana’s smallest square. The literature house works under the wing of the City of Ljubljana’s Department for Culture.

In September, the Trubar House of Literature begins its new 2011/2012 programme year, in which our current monthly cycle of events will continue, to which we will also add some interesting programme novelties and fresh ideas.
