The inside out project in ljubljana

The project has been brought to Slovenia by Vida Mulec and Vanja Černivec, the project enthusiasts and former students of international relations with the help of the City of Ljubljana and Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture.

Their aim was to stimulate the attitude of young people towards the current economic, legal, moral and ethical conditions in Slovenia. They have invited the students of the final year of the undergraduate studies of international relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana

The INSIDE OUT project is a widely based project, which transforms the messages of personal identity to work of art in the form of black and white portrait photographs enlarged to the dimensions of 150 cm x 100 cm or 300 cm x 150 cm.

The project concept offers everyone a chance to share their identity with the world. The faces of the participants are printed on large posters and sent out in to the world as local street art creations with strong messages of the fight against racism, intolerance and religious hatred, supporting same-sex marriage rights and honest care for one another.

In 2013, HBO has filmed a documentary feature on the project titled INSIDE OUT: The People’s Art Project. There have been over 130,000 portraits from 108 countries submitted for the project.
The students of the final year of the undergraduate studies of international relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences have joined in this message to the world: "Our portraits are the way of showing the world fatalism is not the only option. Active participation, a bit of positive attitude and a sense of community can completely alter the situation. An active and positive individual can change their future, and a number of such individuals can change the future of a generation. This is our long-term goal. And in between we wanted to put smiles on the faces of people passing by our portraits of joyful and positive images to give them positive energy to face their daily obstacles and contribute on their own to our cause."
