The intergenerational education centre ljubljana
On 12 February 2014, Mayor Zoran Janković greeted the assembled audience at the beginning of the Intergeneration Education Centre activity within the Cene Štupar public institute in the great hall at the City Hall.
The welcome addresses by Mag Bojan Hajdinjak, the director of the public Institute of Adult Education Cene Štupar, and the Mayor of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković were followed by the signing of the Collaboration Agreement on the Cene Štupar Intergenerational Education Centre Ljubljana project between the public institute Cene Štupar – Adult Education Centre Ljubljana and 29 partner organisations.
Members of the Association of Slovenian Adult Education Centres have recognized a great need for organised and directed intergenerational education. In November 2013, adult education centres of Slovenia have established 28 Intergenerational Centres across Slovenia (one of them was the public institute Cene Štupar, Adult Education Centre Ljubljana, the Intergeneration Education Centre Ljubljana) to narrow the generation gap and enable knowledge flow among individuals of different generations. The last week of November was filled with over 200 events across Slovenia with the focus on connecting generations to transfer knowledge, wisdom and experience. The project was supported by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor and Mayor Zoran Janković as national and local ambassadors, alongside with the former President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr Danilo Türk and numerous Slovenian celebrities.
The Intergenerational Education Centres and their meticulous programmes are a part of the project that reflects the need of generations in Slovenia with their unifying, connectional and educational notion to motivate the improvement of quality of life in communities and additional encouragement for active education in every walk of life.
The public institute Cene Štupar Adult Education Centre Ljubljana has included different regional partners connecting generations from the day-cares, schools, nursing homes, pensioners’ associations and non-government organisations and societies under the patronage of the City of Ljubljana to encourage personal growth, improve the intergenerational status and with a wish to bridge the generation gaps.
