The international paneuropean conference in ljubljana
On 21 February 2014, Mayor Zoran Janković hosted participants of the International conference under the title "Multidimensionality of European Foreign Policy” at the City Hall.
The conference on "Multidimensionality of European Foreign Policy" was organised by the Slovenian Paneuropean Movement with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Slovenia and the European Parliament took place in Ljubljana from 21 to 23 February 2014.
The topic of the conference was dedicated to the various aspects of the EU foreign policy with academic, economic, legal and safety talks, and the role of the European citizens in shaping the EU foreign policy.
The Ljubljana conference was a part of the larger European project titled "European Citizens for the European Foreign Policy" with 13 partners (paneuropean movements from Austria, BiH, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Slovakia, Spain, the Euro-Mediterranean University, Youth Council of Ljubljana, the student organisation of Slovenian Academic Union, the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia…) from 8 countries and supported by the European programme Europe for Citizens. The project's focus is to discuss the multidimensionality of the EU foreign policy systematically.
One of the topics with special attention is the role of European citizens in shaping the EU foreign policy and rights, due to the importance and current question of the active European citizenship.
Paneuropa is the oldest European unification organisation. The idea of the paneuropan movement began in 1922 with the publishing of the Austrian politician, diplomat and philosopher, Richard Coudenhove Kalergi's manifesto Paneuropa, which introduced the idea of a unified European State with peaceful relations. He published an independent book on his vision and additional arguments the following year. The unified Europe (paneuropean idea) concept was birthed as an answer to the WW1, which has led Europe to the edge of destruction with the material and spiritual devastation – war is the consequence of national egoism, which will lead to new international catastrophes.
