The quality of life in ljubljana

The Eurobarometer survey has resulted in positive replies from 90 % people interviewed on the subject of quality of life in Ljubljana.

Eurobarometer is a public opinion survey conducted by the European Commission on quality of life in the European cities – specifically, 79 cities in the European Union as well as cities in Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey. 41,000 people surveyed have expressed their satisfaction with different aspects of the urban life.
The survey was conducted in November and December of the last year and it involved 522 citizens of Ljubljana.

People, living in Ljubljana, are most satisfied with these living aspects:
- schools and other educational institution – 87 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the first place among the EU capitals,
- cleanliness – 87 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the second place among the EU capitals,
- public transportation – 78 % of surveyed people living in Ljubljana are satisfied with the transportation,
- healthcare – 75 % satisfied surveyed inhabitants,
- sporting facilities – 76 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the fourth place among the EU capitals,
- cultural institutions – 88 % satisfied surveyed inhabitants,
- neighbourhood streets and buildings – 82 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the fifth place among the EU capitals,
- public spaces (markets, squares, pedestrians areas) – 85 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the sixth place among the EU capitals,
- tourist-friendly city – 87 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the fifth place among the EU capitals;
73 % of the surveyed population believes the foreign inhabitants are well integrated into the society which ranges Ljubljana first among the EU capitals with this result.
- safety in the city – 90 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the fifth place among the EU capitals,
- neighbourhood safety – 94 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the fourth place among the EU capitals,
- green areas (parks, gardens) – 86 % satisfied surveyed inhabitants,
- noise pollution level – 73 % satisfied inhabitants range Ljubljana in the seventh place among the EU capitals.

The commerce offer (74 %) and employment possibilities (only 22 % believe one can find employment in Ljubljana) have received less satisfying results.

The main problems seem to be healthcare, unemployment and air pollution based on the survey results and should be dealt with in the future. The Municipality of Ljubljana has been dealing with these areas and conducting several activities to improve the quality of the affected areas.
