The renovated Šentjakob Stage came to life

We have opened the renovated Šentjakob Stage, providing the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and the Šentjakob Theatre Ljubljana with modern conditions for the creative process.

The hall, which was the first to be dedicated to culture in the City Hall, built in 1899, at first glance already gives the impression of »belonging to a different time and standards«. The theatre hall on the first floor of the building is managed by the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, which shares this space with the Šentjakob Theatre Ljubljana.

Within the scope of the renovation, we completely refurbished the hall, the backstage area and the lobby, an area of 780 m2 in total, enhanced the earthquake resistance of the building, and refitted the sanitary facilities and access for people with reduced mobility. We have improved the functionality of the venue and adjoining spaces, and arranged all entrances to make them more accessible to mobility impaired people.

We obtained the permission of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia for the project. The contractual value of the investment amounted to 2.7 million EUR, including VAT.
