The unique Ljubljana and world-famous hostel is celebrating 20 years

On 30 May 2023, exactly 20 years have passed since Hostel Celica on Metelkova Street in Ljubljana opened its doors to travellers from around the world. It welcomed its first guests in early July 2003, shortly after its opening.

The uniqueness of the Hostel Celica

The uniqueness of Hostel Celica is reflected in the artistically renovated former prison cells. Each one is totally unique and has its own author/artist (or group of them), its own story, its own concept. But they all have one common characteristic: bars on the doors and windows. So travellers can sleep in former prison cells. And precisely these rooms are such a unique and special feature of the hostel.

And so, Hostel Celica is a place with an extraordinary story and design. It is an exceptional example of how art can transform an object with a dark and challenging history into a space of open possibilities and positive vibrations. Hostel Celica is more than just a hostel. It is an artistic hostel with a gallery and a cultural program (lectures, concerts ...). As a globally recognized hostel, it has received numerous awards, certificates and recognitions (Green Key, Lonely Planet, Sejalec, Slovenia Green Accommodation ...).

Since 2018 under the auspices of the Ljubljana Castle

In 2018, Hostel Celica was transferred under the management of the Ljubljana Castle Public Institute, which is aware of the significance of managing such an important tourist facility, which holds high historical value and cultural heritage and represents an intertwining of tourism and culture.
