The year 2023, when three important anniversaries were celebrated in Kinodvor – the centenary of the cinema at Kolodvorska, the twentieth anniversary of the art cinema and fifteen years of the Public Institute Kinodvor – exceeded all expectations in terms of successfulness. In the past year, we recorded 125,913 visitors at 1,990 screenings, including the Film Educational Programme for Young Audiences, for which this was the year with the highest attendance so far.

In addition, we have recorded over two thousand views of films from the Programme for Schools and the Randez-vous with Coffe and Talk programme on the video-on-demand platform. According to our estimates, around 5,600 people visited the outdoor screenings at the Open-air Cinema on Congress Square.

Cinema for children and the youth

Last year, the Film Educational Programme for Young Audiences, which consists of the Kinobalon family programme, Kinotrip – the youth for the youth – and Kinodvor's Programme for Schools, was visited by 39,987 viewers at 531 screenings, of which 14,746 were in Kinobalon's regular programme, and 25,241 children and young people at 247 screenings within the school programme. In addition, 2024 young people watched films at 28 online school screenings, and we counted 1403 young viewers in Kinotrip's regular programme with the festival.

In addition, in the Film and Mental Health project, over 9,000 pupils across Slovenia watched a selected programme of films online or in participating cinemas. The project is implemented by Kinodvor with the support of the National Institute of Public Health.

Record holder in 2023

The most-watched film of the year was Past Lives with 3,873 views, followed by TÁR with 3,699 viewers. Each of the films Aftersun, Oppenheimer, the family film Llenos de gracia and Triangle of Sadness were seen by over 2,500 viewers.
The year 2023 was also exceptional for the Slovenian film. We showed 49 films and film series at 275 screenings, and 14,348 viewers watched them.

As so many times before in history, it has been proven that going to the cinema is still one of the most popular forms of spending free time and socialising in general, and the results of the past year confirm this once again. »In Kinodvor, we can boast that we really have the best audience. We are proud that visitors of all generations trust us and keep coming back. The experience of watching a film in a cinema is obviously still irreplaceable to them,« said director Metka Dariš.
