There is no room for vandalism in Ljubljana

In the past few days, we have witnessed several cases of vandalism in Ljubljana, including someone deliberately starting a fire at the Ilirija Sports Centre, which we are building.

According to the first estimate, it caused 300,000 euros worth of damage.

In addition to the fire started at the Ilirija Sports Centre, in the past few days, delinquents set fire to underground waste collection units in several locations around Ljubljana, three adolescents went on a rampage around the city in a car they had stolen, destroying public areas and urban equipment, and during the football match between Olimpija and Maribor at the Stožice Stadium, over 300 seats were damaged.

Mayor Zoran Janković strongly condemns such unreasonable actions: »As well as any other form of vandalism, for which zero tolerance must apply, because this is our city. I hope the police will find the perpetrators as soon as possible and sanction them accordingly, and we will lodge a claim for the damage once we get an assessment. We must also not forget the online publication about a potential attack in schools, creating panic throughout the country, which caused the City of Ljubljana to incur 130,000 euros in costs for providing security in elementary schools. Again in this case, we will claim damages from the perpetrator once he is discovered. It is important to understand that diverse people live together in Ljubljana, so we must preserve and strengthen values such as respect, tolerance and camaraderie. For the good of all of us,« the mayor underscored.
