Tourists love ljubljana
From January to the end of May 2012, Ljubljana was visited by 9.3% more tourists than in the same period last year, while the number of overnights in the period went up by 8.6%. Given that 2011 was a record year, this is a fantastic result.
Data from the Republic of Slovenia Statistical Office (SURS) for Ljubljana from the start of January to the end of May shows that there were a total of 137,622 arrivals of visitors who spent the night in Ljubljana, amounting to 266,423 overnights. The average stay in Ljubljana was approximately two nights or three days.
Ranked by visits and overnights, Italians were in first place, with Germans second and Austrians third, while by overnights alone the British were the largest group. Japanese and Americans were also in the top ten, with the latter recording an above average length of stay (2.3).
According to Tourist Information Centre estimates based on the daily data recorded in Ljubljana accommodation facilities, the provisional data for July showed the number of overnights in Ljubljana at 121,470, which is 16.7% up on July last year, when according to SURS data Ljubljana recorded a total of 104,051 overnights.
The estimate of actual overnights in Ljubljana in the period January – July 2012 is 454,595, a 7.4% jump on the first seven months of 2011, when SURS data shows a total of 423,210 overnights.
