Unique vertical garden at mala ulica

The Mala Ulica Family Centre boasts a new children's playground and a new vertical garden, first of its kind in the world.

The garden is set up within the Ljubljana, My City project (LMM). The green wall is appropriate of the surroundings of a playground for children to grow their plants (herbs, berries, etc). The design is based on the work of Patrick Blanc, a French architect known for his vertical garden green walls.

The Mala Ulica vertical garden is designed as innovative and ecologically sustainable – as a green wall garden with added art interventions, making it the first in the world based on the technology used. The arrangement of a vertical garden in Slovenia and in public is also a technological experiment – to implement in practice the plant survival possibilities on a green was in cold winter conditions, which has not yet been succeeded anywhere in the world.

The project is a work of architects Mateja Panter and Špela Kuhar, who designed the architecture of the garden and partially contributed to the technical part. The demanding technical part was designed and executed by the Humko Bled Company. The project also included drilling a hole to gain access to groundwater (temperature of cca 12˚C) for watering and heating the system in winter conditions to achieve sustainable attitude of the project.

In addition, the Mala Ulica Family Centre opened their door in 2013 as the first such centre in Slovenia, which is designed as a public living room for families with pre-school children.
