The President of Turkey, Dr Abdullah Gül, and Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković met on Wednesday 14 July 2010.

The President and the Mayor paid a joint visit to the newly opened Mesarski most (Butcher's Bridge) and Dr Gül also signed the Golden Book of the City of Ljubljana.

Gül was born in October 1950 and is the 11th President of Turkey. His term of office began on 28 August 2007. Prior to this, he was Turkish Prime Minister for 5 months in 2002 and 2003, and Foreign Minister between 2003 and 2007.

While Foreign Minister, he visited Ljubljana City Hall in December 2004, where he met the then Mayor Danica Simšič.
